AveDesk is a desktop enhancer application created by Andreas Verhoeven that adds desklets to the desktop. With AveDesk, you can add large icons to the desktop that display hard drive or folder information, or when paired with SysStats run mini-applications such as weather desklets and display system information.
AveDesk is freeware, but donations are gladly accepted.
How to use AveDesk
Adding desklets to your desktop
AveDesk comes with several pre-packaged desklets you can add to your desktop. The most commonly used feature of AveDesk is the PidlShortcut. These are shortcut icons that reside on your desktop and can be set to display information about the shortcut, such as hard drive space, number and size of files in a folder, or how many files are in the recycle bin.
When in combination with SysStats, AveDesk can function much like DesktopX in the kinds of desklets it can run. These can include weather desklets, rss readers, converters, system information monitors, clocks, calendars, and more.
AveDesk can not only be eye candy sitting on your desktop, but can also be functional and uses a small amount of RAM (about 10mb).
